fall europe trip

November 11, 2017

When 2 fun friends decided to get married in Italy this past September, a whole crew of our friends decided it was the perfect excuse to trek across the pond for a group trip to Europe. Between 5 days in Croatia, with 3 of those days being on a sailboat, 1 night in Lake Como, 3 days in La Morra, and 2 days in Nice, France, we packed in a lot - from sailing, to swimming, to enjoying all the food and wine and gelato and more.

Highlights from Croatia :

-Spending 3 days on a 3 bedroom sailboat was my favorite part of our Croatia trip. We had 2 boats between 11 of us, which was the perfect amount of space for everyone. Our captains listened to what sort of things we wanted to check out and then set a plan of where to go from there. We spent our days checking out different gorgeous swimming areas, exploring small towns, moped-ing around, and lounging on the boat.

-We docked one night in Hvar and one night in Vis - which turned out to be my favorite. We spent an afternoon on mopeds, swam in the clearest blue water, and stumbled upon a tiny little family owned restaurant on a vineyard called Magica where our group ended up before they were officially open for dinner, but they let us in to enjoy several bottles of wine along with freshly made fig jam that the mother and daughter were making right in front of us. We also spent one rosé filled afternoon taking in the views at a gorgeous beach club, Laganini

We spent the nights before and after our sailing trip in the city of Split, Croatia, where it felt like you were walking through the real life Game of Thrones. (turns out - the show is actually filmed in Croatia!) I think our whole group would agree that our favorite meal in Split was at Bokeria - the best for food (truffle pasta!), service, and atmosphere.  The city was full of Italian restaurants, gelato stands, fun packed bars, and cool local markets full of fresh produce, cheese, and flowers. We also spent one sunny afternoon at Joe's Beach Club - that's also where Pete and I did our first cliff jumping of the trip. (see pic here!)

On to Italy - we flew from Split, Croatia to Milan, Italy and did a quick drive over to Lake Como, where Pete and I had a fun relaxing night to ourselves - we did the classic Italian tourist evening with pizza and more gelato, and drove around to take in the gorgeous scenery around the stunning lake. We stayed right on the water at Hotel Regina - it was a simple room but the grounds and views were so perfect.

From there, we drove over to La Morra where we spent the next 3 nights and enjoyed the main event which brought us over to Europe in the first place - our friends wedding! We loved our darling hotel here - Uve - and couldn't recommend it enough. The hospitality, the cool modern farmhouse feel of our room, and the quaint town of La Morra - it was all just a dream.

Our friends wedding turned out to be a real life fairytale wedding - from the welcome party at nearby Enrico Serafino, to the breathtaking cathedral they got married in, to the unbelievable castle where the reception was - it was really such a treat just to be able to experience it all. Their wedding deserves an entire blog post of its own, it was so incredible.

To cap off our amazing trip, we took a train from Genoa, Italy, to Nice, France to enjoy one more night in Europe and a couple days to check out the French Riviera. We booked a room with the most perfect view at Hotel Suisse, and capped off the trip with a dip in the Mediterranean Sea and taking in the views (with more rosé) at Beau Rivage.

Getting back to home sweet home was a reality check not only with the 7 hour time difference but also adjusting to regular life which sadly doesn't include daily rosé,  dips in the sea, and nonstop bread and cheese, but I was happy to come home relaxed and ready to plan our next adventure.
